Electronics Technician
Department: Design Engineering
Reports To: Electrical Engineering Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Summary: This position includes assisting electrical design engineers by reviewing documentation, conducting tests, analyzing results and completing equipment adjustments by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Builds prototype circuits from schematics and size requirements provided by design engineers including the acquisition of materials and possible layout of circuit boards.
  • Performs creation and testing of prototype electronics for functionality and robustness. Included with this responsibility is the compilation of testing results and data as well as communication with the design engineer on test progress.
  • Reviews project specifications to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies. (Ex. Debug circuit operation and field failures.)
  • Performs upkeep and organization of the electronics area of the lab. Includes keeping inventory of electronic components, connectors, wire and hardware necessary to troubleshoot and build PC boards.
  • May also include the generation of schematics and bills of materials from hand-drawn schematics as well as other ISO related paperwork.
  • Drafts detail drawing or sketch for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet metal or wood shops.
  • Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as production testers or sample products.
  • Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.
  • Modifies customer-loaned and company-purchased machines for use with company-designed prototypes for customer and company testing. Modifications include both mechanical and electrical.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Mfg.Electrical Engineer
Department: Manufacturing Engineering

Summary: This position includes the design and drafting of systems of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic controls for machines and equipment such as arc welders, robots, conveyors and programmable controllers by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Discusses projects with supervisor and manufacturing applications engineers in order to review the functions of machines and equipment.
  • Designs and drafts the arrangement of linkages of conductors, relays and other components of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and lubrication devices.
  • Diagrams logic systems for functions such as sequence and timing control.
  • Designs and drafts diagrams of cable connections for robots, robot end-of-arm tools, robot controllers and other machines.
  • Illustrates and describes the installation and maintenance details such as where bearings should be lubricated, types of lubrication and which parts are lubricated automatically and manually.
  • Confers with industrial equipment assemblers and wirers to resolve problems regarding the building of control systems.
  • Reviews schematics with customer representatives to answer questions during the installation of robot systems.
  • Observes gauges during the trial run of programmed machines and equipment operation to verify that electrical signals in the system conform to specifications.
  • Designs controls for energy conversion or other industrial plant monitoring systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary: This position includes the design and direction of the installation of mechanical or electromechanical products or plant systems by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

General:

  • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
  • Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering cots, available space, time limitations, company planning and other technical and economic factors.
  • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties and process advantages and limitations which affect long-range plant and product engineering planning.
  • Confers with research and other engineering personnel to clarify and resolve problems and prepares design modifications as required. Solves unusual problems jointly with management, and work is reviewed for application of sound engineering judgment.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout, detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
  • Compiles and analyzes operational, test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses.
  • Performs work which involves conventional types of plans, investigations, structures or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory:
  • Trains employees within the Engineering Department.
  • Plans and assigns the work of subordinate Engineering Department employees.
  • Manages employee performance through appraisals, rewards, recognition and performance improvement plans.
  • Addresses all employee complaints and grievances and works to resolve issues.
